Meets Ethics/Legal Regulation and School Psychology CPD Requirement for NCSPs: E-mail, text messages, Facebook, Twitter, Evernote and other forms of electronic communication make it easier for educators to communicate with their colleagues and with students and parents. However, significant legal issues arise when educators use these forms of communication as some schools have discovered too late. In this session, school attorney Karen Haase reviews recent legal decisions involving electronic communication and will provide practice suggestions on how to avoid legal problems while still using these technologies.

1) know when they must retain electronic communication as a part of the educational record

2) be more cautious in the sentiments they express when communicating electronically

3) Be confident that electronic communication is a valuable way to work with peers, students, and parents, so long as the technology is managed properly.
